The 7th Annual Meeting on High Performance Computing and Infrastructure in Norway
NOTUR2008 - ABSTRACTS
RESERVOIR - Bringing the Cloud Down to Earth
Eliot Salant
Cloud Computing is a hot buzzword in today's ICT world, even though
there may be not total agreement on what Cloud Computing really means.
So, without trying to give an exact definition of Cloud Computing, we
will look a bit at current commerical efforts in the Cloud world, and
understand the benefits that Cloud Computing can offer today. We will
then try looking down the road to see what will really be required
from a Cloud as the ICT world moves to Web 2.0 and beyond. I will
then discuss the vision of the RESERVOIR project, which is a three
year project being funded by the European Union FP7 initiative, with a
total budget of over 17,000,000 euros, and is aiming to create the
infrastructure for the next generation cloud.
