The thermolysin family of enzymes:cold adaptatino and inhibition interactions
Olayiwola Adekoya
Zinc containing peptidases are widely distributed in nature and have
important roles in many physiological processes. The thermolysin
family of enzymes (M4 family) is zinc-dependent metallopeptidases that
hydrolyze peptide bonds. A large number of these enzymes are
implicated as virulence factors of the microorganisms that produce
them and are therefore potential drug targets. Furthermore, enzymes in
the family are also adapted to function at the extremes of
temperatures or in organic solvents, and thereby have an innovative
potential for biotechnological applications.
