Winner of the Student Poster Award

The Student Poster Award, 5000 NOK

7 posters were submitted. They were of two types: some were part of a larger project within computational science and some were more limited student projects in computer science.

The posters were evaluated according to the announced criteria:

  • How well they demonstrated the usefulness of high-performance computing to a field of research
  • Their connection to and use of the Notur infrastructure
  • The quality of the work

The jury was Tor Sørevik, UiB, Leif Reidar Røkkum, UiO, and Bjørn Hafskjold, NTNU.

The winner was "Operational Forecasting Service" by L. Bertino, K.-A. Liasæther, and F.Counillon, presented by PhD student Francois Counillon from Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center. [pdf]

Statement from the jury

The jury felt that several of the posters were very good. The award winner showed a good combination of satelite data acquisition,
modelling, and physical interpretation of the results. The usefulness of HPC was thus clearly demonstrated. The winner demonstrated a competent assimilation of observations and simulated data, using modern statistical methods. The student had a good understanding of his field and his own contribution to the field.
