HPC-Europa2: research visit opportunities using HPC

The EU-funded project HPC-Europa2 calls for proposals from researchers working in Europe to visit any of the seven HPC centres in its Transnational Access programme.

HPC-Europa2 is a consortium of leading HPC centres plus centres of excellence researching HPC tools and techniques. The seven centres that participate in the Transnational Access programme are CINECA (Bologna), BSC (Barcelona), CSC (Helsinki), EPCC (Edinburgh), SARA (Amsterdam), HLRS (Stuttgart) and GENCI-CINES (Paris).

Applications for the programme are welcomed from academic or industrial researchers, from senior postgraduate students to the most senior researchers, who are working on non-proprietary research in any discipline and for which access to HPC facilities is beneficial. Visitors will use the HPC facilities of the participating centres to improve the quality of their research, while working in collaboration with a scientific researcher from an appropriate local research institute.

The programme is fully funded by the European Commission Capacities Area - Research Infrastructures Initiative and offers visiting researchers:

  • access to some of the most powerful HPC facilities in Europe;
  • HPC consultancy from experienced staff;
  • opportunities to collaborate with scientists working in related fields at a relevant local research institute;
  • travel costs, subsistence expenses and accommodation (may be in a shared flat).
Visits can last between 3 weeks and 3 months. The average visit length is six weeks.

Applications are evaluated every three months. (Tentative) closing dates for proposals are:

  • 15 November 2010
  • 28 February 2011
  • 1 May 2011 (15 May 2011)
  • 5 September 2011 (15 September 2011)
  • 15 November 2011
  • 15 February 2012
  • 15 May 2012

The Transnational Access programme will continue to the end of 2012.
